A bastible is a flat-bottomed, cast iron pot used for baking and cooking meals in 19th- and early 20th-century Ireland. It sat on or was suspended over an open fire and was the primary source of cooking in most Irish country cottages of old. The joy of cooking Irish soda bread in this traditional way is not only keeping our culinary heritage alive, but also the resulting loaf has a pleasing crust and remains moist and fluffy inside. This quick dough can also be used to make
