160°C oven

  • 6 apples, such as pink lady
  • 150 g slightly salted butter
  • 100 g caster sugar

1 casserole dish

1 chopping board

1 mandoline

1 apple corer

Preheat the oven to 160°C.

Peel the apples and remove the cores with an apple corer.

Slice them into thin rounds with a mandoline.

Slice the butter thinly.

Put some sugar and butter in the base of a casserole dish, and arrange the apple slices on top in a rosette pattern.

Add some more butter and sugar. Repeat this process. Cover and cook in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove the lid and cook for a further 30 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

To serve, place the cold casserole dish in a very hot oven for 5 minutes, then turn out immediately onto a serving plate.
