Cut the orange into small cubes, without peeling.
Split the vanilla bean in half lengthways.
Bring the milk to the boil with the sugar, cubes of orange and vanilla in a flameproof casserole dish. Pour in the rice in a stream, stirring constantly. Stir for 45 minutes over low heat.
Cool to room temperature.
