These scones are quick and easy to make and should preferably be eaten warm from the oven.

Ingredients

  • 225 g (8 oz) plain flour
  • 1 level teaspoon baking powder

Method

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Rub in the butter or margarine as for shortcrust pastry till the mixture forms fine crumbs. Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in the buttermilk and stir into the dry ingredients, till you have a soft, elastic white dough. Knead lightly till the dough is smooth and the sides of the bowl clean. Roll the dough out on a floured board, about 2 cm (¾ in) th
