Semifreddo is Italian for “half cold,” but what it really means is a reason to eat an entire hunk of something that resembles softened ice cream. Because it’s not overwhelmingly chilled, it makes for the most wonderful vehicle for vanilla, melting quickly over your tongue as soon as you take a bite.

  • Line a 9-by-5-by-3-inch loaf pan with two perpendicular sheets of plastic wrap, leaving at least 3 inches of overhang on all sides.
  • Pour cream into a large bowl
