These succulent meat pies are Tatar in origin, very much like the Kazakh belyashi enjoyed throughout Russia. This recipe was given to me by a dear Tatar friend, Zainab, whose house is hung with heavy Oriental carpets and whose kitchen never fails to produce delectable surprises. These peremech, typical for a Tatar meal, should be eaten straight from the frying pan, juicy and hot.
