Tart apples, fragrant guava, spiced rum and a toasty, oaty topping come together in this warming crumble. If you can, go for Granny Smith or Bramley apples for a sharp contrast to the sweet guava jelly. If you don’t have them, any eating apples lurking at the bottom of the fruit bowl will do. Serve with custard or ice cream for nostalgia, or do as I do and enjoy with a spoonful of cardamom mascarpone.
