Called bregye by one author and breglie by another, this cherry soup is most definitely German (it can be found in Scandinavia, the Black Forest, and northern Germany). How did it arrive in the Faucigny? Through Alamanni or with an immigrant returning from Germany? It is found only in this small area of the Faucigny, so the immigrant theory is the more probable.
I serve it as breakfast fare on pilaf of polenta.
