Method

Pour a pint and a half of cold water into a saucepan. Stir in five ounces of bere-meal. When smooth and free from lumps, bring to the boil. Simmer over boiling water in the upper part of a double boiler, keeping it covered except to stir occasionally, for about twenty-five minutes. Add a scant teaspoon
