These are quite hefty and filling, so even though you only get eight chips from a block of halloumi they could easily be a wee snack for four people or a more substantial one for two. If you’re cooking for a crowd, just double up the recipe.
Pat the halloumi dry, then cut the block in half horizontally. Cut each half into four long chips. Put the flour on a plate and the beaten egg into a flattish bowl. Put the breadcrumbs on another plate and mix in the za’atar and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Toss each piece of halloumi in the flour, then the egg and then the breadcrumbs, making sure they are well coated.
