Swedish Saffron Buns or Cat’s Eyes

Scandinavian baking recipes often use exotic spices such as cinnamon, cardamom or saffron, brought back by Viking exploration. This is a typical mid-winter recipe, leading up to the 21st of December, the shortest day, when warmth and light are most desired. These yellow S-shaped buns are cheering. In the UK, we have a Cornish equivalent known as Revel Buns.
