My dad, Bernard, is mad for hanepoot grapes. His excitement as the season approaches is insuppressible. “It’s almost hanepoot time, you know!”. He buys me a few boxes at the end of the summer from various places around the Constantia area. The season is too short, and the grapes taste so sweet that they have escaped the export market.
