Yemen is strategically situated on the southern entrance of the Red Sea separating Arabia from Africa and at a crossroads of the trade routes. Its culture shows Greek, Persian, Roman, Indian, Indonesian and Chinese influences. In the glory days of the Silk Road, Yemen controlled the supply of frankincense and myrrh, and played an important role in the spice trade.
