Qamsar, a small desert town near Kashan in central Iran, is famous for its roses, which are harvested for their rose water in May. On the road to Qamsar from Kashan, there is a wonderful Safavid caravanserai said to have been built by one of Shah Abbas’s generals. May is the time to go there and become intoxicated with the aroma of the roses as they are picked.
