  • About

Omurice is fried rice seasoned with ketchup and wrapped in a thin egg crepe. Rice and ketchup may sound like an odd combination, but it tastes more like tomato-flavored pilaf. For a bento box, it’s hard to wrap the rice with the egg crepe, so place the egg crepe on top.

Ingredients

Omurice

  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) butter
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil

Method

  1. Heat the butter and 1 teaspoon of the oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the ham and onion, and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the onion becomes tender. Add the rice and stir-fry, mixing for 1 minute. Season the rice with ¼ teaspoon of the salt and the pepper. Make room in the pan and add the ketchup apart from the rice.
