This is the simplest but most delicious dal. Serve it as part of an Indian vegetarian spread, perhaps with dal makhani, pilaf rice, a bowl of chopped cucumber and tomato or cucumber raita.

Ingredients

  • 50 g ( oz) ghee or butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric<

Method

Heat the ghee in the insert pan of a slow cooker or a frying pan over medium heat. Cook the turmeric, chilli powder, cumin seeds, onion, ginger, garlic and half of the sliced chilli for about 5 minutes until fragrant and soft.

Return the insert pan, if using, to the slow cooker, or transfer the mixture to the slow cooker, then add the chana dal and 1.25
