This is not unlike the mussels marinara in many Italian restaurants, but I think it is lighter and better. It does require friends who are willing to get their hands dirty. Serve lots of bread for dunking as well as a large spoon and an oyster fork each, if they are available. The recipe is easily doubled, but then the mussels may take a little longer to open.
