Not all of us have ready access to tamarillos. I developed this in a T.S. Eliot “dry month” as a substitute for the prior recipe.


  • 3 vine-ripened plum tomatoes, peeled
  • 1 medium red plum, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice<


In a food processor, purée the tomatoes and plum with ¼ cup (65 ml) water. Pass through a coarse sieve into a medium bowl. Stir in the remaining ingredients.
