This is a dish for grand occasions, such as weddings or Christmas. The pasta itself is only a vehicle for all sorts of goodies, resulting in a rich timbale. The curious thing is that at festive events it is customary to enjoy richer food than usual anyway, and so only a small wedge of this dish is eaten. The rest makes a welcome leftover the following evening. Some gourmet Neapolitans add fresh truffles but I think that is going a little too far...
