This is very similar to the compota made by my Navarrese grandmother, and is one of the dishes that has always been prepared in my family on special days, religious or not. The difference is that she would add a drop of wine, whereas I prefer the gentler taste of my adaptation. In the winter in Spain, we make compotas containing nuts and dried fruit, but I also love the summer ones that can use the seasonal fruit that is so plentiful and delicious, including berries from trees
