I like to dress cakes with fresh flowers. There are many varieties and colours available so it is worth experimenting, but I have found roses to be particularly effective for blocking between tiers of a cake or for studding a polystyrene base for display, as here.

Ingredients

You Will Need

  • florist’s scissors
  • fresh roses
  • florist’s wires cut to 10cm (4in) lengths
  • 9 cm ( in)

Method

  1. Trim each rose to leave approximately 2cm (¾in) of stalk. Gently tease a wire into the stalk.

  2. Insert the wire into the polystyrene block. Repeat, working around the cake base or tier and ensure the roses are lined up and equal.
