The first time I saw ribbon inserted into a cake I was convinced that the ribbon had literally been threaded through the icing. In fact, this is an illusion: little snippets of ribbon are actually tucked into pre-marked slits. It’s an extremely effective and relatively simple way to decorate a cake.
