Method

First, soak the chana dal in water for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, cook the rice. Put the rice into a medium, lidded saucepan and cover with water. Swirl the rice around to wash it, drain and repeat at least twice until the water is clear. Then, add the 500 ml of water, so it covers the rice by
