Put the Maldive fish, chilli flakes, lime juice and salt into a pestle and mortar or food processor. Pound or blitz until the ingredients are roughly combined.
Add the onions and gently pound or blitz them into the mix until you have a coarse paste. Taste for salt and lime and serve.
