A classic Pakistani dessert, usually made in tiny, shallow, unglazed terracotta bowls which infuse the ground rice with their earthy essence. The authentic taste of this comforting dessert comes from the addition of cardamom and screwpine water (you can use rose water in its place). Nearly all nights spent at my Nani’s (maternal grandmother) house would result in her being coerced into making firni – hers was always the most delicious, and full of her unconditional love.
