An old Scottish recipe from the countryside, this delicious treat bears a slightly strange name, but the flavour and texture are delightful. In the old sweetshops of Scotland, the ‘sweetie wives’, as the shopkeepers were called, would have made these with ground ginger. If you can obtain whole liquorice root and a spice grinder for this recipe, the resulting taste is wonderful.
