Making your own compote is an important and useful skill to have in the kitchen. Cutting the strawberries neat and petite for this recipe will make it more appealing to the eye. Also, adding orange zest deepens the flavor profile and gives it that little something extra. Try this on breakfast biscuits, in cake mixes, or on toast.

Ingredients

  • Juice and finely grated zest of 1 large orange
  • Juice and finely grated zest of 1 small lemon

Method

In a medium bowl, combine the orange juice, lemon juice, and cornstarch to create a slurry. Set aside.

Place the strawberries and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook and stir gently for 2 minutes. You’ll see a lot of liquid pooling and the strawberries starting to break down.

Add the slurry mixture, along with the orange and lemon zest. Mix well.
