This syrup can be used to poach a variety of dried and fresh fruit, altering the poaching time as necessary. Prunes, dried apricots or fresh pears are all good. You can serve the fruit on its own or with ice cream and a little syrup poured over. Since the fruit keeps well in the refrigerator, it can also provide a good impromptu dessert.
