Traditionally made with a thin crust of yeast or puff pastry, this delicious pie can be eaten on its own or as an accompaniment to roasted meat. This version uses shortcrust pastry, and is filled with a mixture of sauerkraut, two types of cabbage and chunks of ham. Sauerkraut is sometimes sold canned or in jars with white wine vinegar, and this type can be used without any preparation. However, it is traditionally sold in its fermented state and this needs to be lifted from its brine and wa
