Varenyky stuffed with pitted sour cherries is a true Ukrainian specialty! Running a close second is a filling made from wild strawberries—but farmed strawberries are used, too, as well as fresh blueberries or blackberries. Mulberries are a favorite choice in the southern regions of Ukraine. Feel free to substitute any of these for the cherries in this recipe.
