  • About

Makivnyk is the specific name given to a zavyvanets with a spiral poppy seed filling traditionally served at Christmastime. The poppy seeds have a gritty texture, but when combined with the crushed walnuts, the result is a nice and moist filling.

Ingredients

Method

Grease a large baking sheet with butter and set aside. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board or counter, and with a floured rolling pin, roll it out into a narrow rectangle about 12x6 inches and about ¼-inch in thickness. Cover with a kitchen towel while making the poppy seed filling.
