Spicing whiskey with fiery peppers to make peperivka is an age-old tradition in Ukraine. This is my family’s recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whiskey (rye whiskey preferred)
  • 4 whole cayenne peppers

Method

Pour the whiskey into a glass jar fitted with a tight lid. Prick the cayenne peppers all over with a thin skewer and submerge in the whiskey. Cover and let sit for at least 2 days before serving.
