Wash and pick over one quart of white beans. Soak over night. In the morning let them come to a boil, add a pinch of soda and drain. Put them into the kettle with one-half pound of salt pork, slash the rind and cover with boiling water. Boil five minutes and remove to the Cooker for five or six hours. Remove the beans to a baking dish. Cut the pork in slices and lay over the top. Season with salt, pepper and four tablespoons of molasses or brown sugar. Bake until a nice brown.
