  • 1 cup scalded milk
  • 1 yeast cake
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 egg (white)
  • tablespoon sugar
  • cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt


Add butter, sugar and salt to milk; when lukewarm add yeast cake, white of egg well beaten, and flour.

Knead, let rise, roll, shape and size of a lead pencil. Place in floured pan, far apart, brush tops with beaten yolk of egg and sprinkle with poppy seed (if desired). Let raise and bake in hot oven until brown and crisp.
