Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 to 1½ qts. strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Cream

Method

Mix dry ingredients, work in butter with tips of fingers, and add milk gradually. Toss on floured board, divide in 2 parts. Pat, roll out and bake 12 minutes in hot oven in layer cake tins. Split and spread with butter. Sweeten strawberries to taste. Crush slightly and put between and on top of short cake. Allow from 1 to 1½ boxes berries to each short cake. Serve with cream, plain or whipped.
