Method

Select even sized onions, wipe, but do not peel. Place in baking dish, roots down, and bake one hour, or until tender. Remove from fire, remove roots, peel carefully, return to dish, add pepper, salt, and a little melted butter or other fat; let stand five minutes in oven, and then serve hot.
