Method

Wipe and cover tomatoes with boiling water. Let stand one minute, then skin. Cut in pieces, put in stewpan, and cook slowly twenty minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with butter, salt, pepper and a little sugar, if desired; add some bread crumbs.
