Beat 2 or 3 eggs well, add salt and water and then add the flour and stir to a smooth, stiff batter. Drop by tablespoonfuls into boiling, salted water and let cook 15 minutes Drain in colander. Heat the fat in a spider, add the dumplings, heat through and just before serving add 2 or 3 eggs beaten slightly. Stir well with spoon and cook a few minutes until eggs are set or scrambled, or brown onion in hot fat and pour over the top. Cracker crumbs or chopped nuts may be used.
