  • 1 pt. milk
  • 3 eggs
  • teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 oranges or 6 bananas


Separate the yolks and whites of eggs. Beat yolks lightly, add the salt and sugar, and beat well. Pour the hot milk slowly into the eggs. Stir constantly until smooth and thick, and train. When cool, flavor with vanilla. Peel and slice oranges or bananas, and place in serving dish. Pour on the custard, and take whites of the three eggs (beaten very light), one-fourth and cup powdered sugar and few drops of vanilla for the meringue, and drop in large spoonfuls on the custard. Any kind of fruit may be substituted for oranges or bananas.
