  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon water, milk or cream
  • 1 tablespoon sherry, rum or brandy, or
  • 1 tablespoon lemon or orange juice and a little of the grated rind, or
  • 1 tablespoon strong black coffee with 1 teaspoon cocoa and Ā½ teaspoon vanilla, or
  • 1 oz. grated chocolate melted over boiling hot water


Cream butter and sugar well adding the liquid and flavoring in any desired proportion, until thin enough to spread.
