Mix and sift flour and soda. Cream the butter, add the sugar and beat thoroughly; beat yolk with Dover beater, when half beaten add cream of tartar and beat to a stiff froth; add this to the creamed butter and sugar and stir well. Then add milk and flour alternately and the flavoring, stir thoroughly. Place in prepared pan in a moderate oven, and bake from twenty to thirty minutes.
