Ingredients

  • ¾ cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cup flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ lb. chocolate, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Method

Cream, butter, add sugar and stir well, add eggs one at a time, beating all the time, then add the flour mixed with the baking powder, and the milk alternately and stir until smooth.

Place ⅓ of the dough in another bowl, add to this the grated chocolate and the spices and flavoring; mix well.

Into a well buttered, deep cake pan, round form with tube in center, if you have one, place a layer of white dough, then a few tablespoons of the dark, then a layer of white, then dark dough and continue leaving white dough on top. Bake 45 minutes in moderate oven.
