  • 10 yolks of eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup sweet chocolate
  • ¾ cup sweet almonds
  • 8 bitter almonds
  • 1 cup stale wheat bread crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 lemon, juice and rind
  • 1 teaspoon brandy
  • 10 whites of eggs, beaten


Stir yolks and sugar together. Mix dry ingredients and add the rest, beaten whites lastly. Bake in three layers in moderate oven.

Filling: Two teaspoons of cornstarch, one cup of milk, one-fourth cup of sugar, two yolks of eggs, and flavor with vanilla. Cook all in a double boiler until thick. Cover the top layer with a Chocolate Frosting.
