  • 4 eggs
  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 1 cup almonds
  • ¼ lb. German sweet chocolate
  • 2 oz. citron
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon each allspice and cloves
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder


Beat eggs and sugar until light, add the spices and the chocolate, grated. Blanch almonds and chop, cut citron fine, mix with the flour and baking powder and combine the two mixtures. Roll on floured board, cut into strips inches long and bake in shallow buttered pans, in a moderate oven, 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool and keep in covered jar.
