Ingredients

  • tablespoons butter and lard
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour

Method

Cream butter, add sugar, egg well beaten, and milk. Mix and sift dry ingredients and add to the first mixture. Add vanilla. Toss on floured board. Cut out some with cookie cutter and place in the center of each cookie a teaspoon of jelly. Cut out covers with a jumble or doughnut cutter with hole in center, and place on top of cookies. Bake in a moderate oven until done.
