Put butter in saucepan; when melted add sugar and milk and stir until sugar is dissolved. Boil 12 minutes, remove from fire; add cocoanut and vanilla, and heat until creamy and mixture begins to sugar slightly. Pour at once into a buttered pan and mark in squares.
