Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons powdered cracker crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup milk
  • Boil up once and serve

Method

Gruels:—Any cold mush that is thinned with cream, milk or water and served very hot, is a gruel.

Gruels must be thoroughly cooked, strained, seasoned and served very hot.

They are flavored with sugar, stick cinnamon, whole cloves, meat extracts and stimulants.
