Known affectionately as Doc, because of his skill in treating sick and injured horses, the late Owen Matthews was chief riding master and horse instructor with the Victorian Mounted Police. From 1965 to 1975, he and his thoroughbred horse, Aintree Boy, mesmerised packed audiences at the Royal Melbourne Show every year with their spectacular routines of dressage movements performed under lights, to music, in the main arena.
