Proving it was extremely popular, this recipe was contributed by Jean Champness, along with three other women—Mrs G. Heinrich, Mrs Gwen Eastwood and Mrs A. Hobbs. It remains one of Shirley’s favourites, and mine too. Economical and quick to make with ingredients once kept in every farmhouse pantry, it brings back family memories of the perfect comfort food, after coming inside from milking the cows on a cold winter’s night.
