This recipe is essentially a cheat’s version of a German-style streusel cake, which can be put together in about ten minutes, using beer instead of yeast to create a similar flavour. The recipe was contributed to Up the Track by Pat Morton from Victory Downs, a cattle station on the South Australian–Northern Territory border. You can bet it is a favourite with station cooks everywhere.
